If you wish to see artistic work made with ancient methods then the Brass and Pottery tour for you. We will visit the Metal crafts workshop at Dhamrai, where you can see artisans with high workmanship ability to make brass crafts by hand, which requires very high skills. The best metal craftsmen in Bangladesh are of the Kansari (brazier) caste and have extraordinary skills in the lost wax process. Metal Crafts Metallurgy began in Bengal as early as 1500 BC in the Chalcolithic age. Fortunately, a few craftsmen still practice this craft at Dhamrai.

We also will visit the pottery village. Pottery, which is one of the oldest human inventions, originated before the Neolithic period but Bengal pottery appeared around 1500 BC. In an alluvial country like Bengal, fine clay is a distinctive geological feature. In this village, you can see different types of vases, bowls, basins, jars, dishes, and many different types of kitchen utensils. On the way back you will visit National Martyrs’ Memorial (Jatiyo Smriti Soudho) which is built to pay homage to those who sacrificed their lives during the liberation war in 1971.

Itinerary

Day 1
08:00 – 08:00 AM

Pick up from your Hotel. Drive to Dhamrai which is 45 kilometers away from Dhaka.

Day 2
10:20 – 11:20 AM

Visit the Dhamrai Metal crafts workshop, here you will see how they make the molds by first creating a wax model, then using layers of material to make a cast. The production of the objects is done by melting metal into the cast, letting them cool, and then finishing the brass. Everything is made by the lost wax process.

Day 3
11:30 – 01:00 PM

Back to Nayarhat Bazaar, Dhamrai and take a boat ride for 30 minutes on the Dhaleshwari River to reach the Kakran Pottery Village. You will see the potters making all different earthenware with their own hands using a pottery wheel. You also will see how the very basic life of the poor potters in this ancient village, basically living hand to mouth yet still carrying on their ancestor’s craft. Please bring some candies for their kids. They will be extremely happy.

Back to Nayarhat Bazaar by boat, and drive to Nabinagar.

Lunch in a local restaurant (taste authentic Bangladeshi traditional dishes)

Day 6
02:50 – 03:00 PM

Visit the arts and handcrafts market near the restaurant.

Day 7
03:10 – 03:40 PM

Visit National Martyrs’ Memorial, symbolizing the valor and sacrifice of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of Bangladesh in 1971.

Day 8
05:45 – 06:00 PM

Drive back to your hotel and say goodbye. End the Brass and Pottery Tour.
